My recipe uses the baking method to avoid unnecessary oil and to add flavor, I use caramelized onions and mushrooms. It really adds something extra to your basic meatball recipe.

In no time, you have a whole pan of tender and flavorful meatballs that can be eaten by itself or with a side of tomato sauce and pasta. Try it out and you’ll know why I’m saying that these meatballs are the best (and easiest) you ever had.

The Best Baked Meatballs

YIELDS: about 22 meatballs      –      PREP TIME: 15 minutes      –      COOK TIME: 25 minutes


  • 1 pound lean ground beef

  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped

  • 120 grams/4 oz. mushrooms, finely chopped

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1/3 cup Italian bread crumbs

  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed

  • 1 egg

  • 2 Tbsp. ketchup

  • 1 Tbsp. parsley, minced (or about ½ Tbsp. dried)

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

  • Cooking Spray


  1. Preheat oven to 400ºF. Spray a large cookie sheet with cooking spray.

  2. Heat oil in a skillet over a medium-high flame. Add onion and mushrooms. Cook until caramelized, around 7 minutes.

  3. Meanwhile, mix together bread crumbs, garlic, egg, ketchup, salt, pepper and parsley in a large mixing bowl.

  4. Add in ground beef, mushrooms and onion and mix until combined (do not overwork). Form into 1-inch balls and place on prepared cookie sheet.

  5. Bake in preheated oven for 16-18 minutes, or until meatballs are browned and cooked through.

  6. Serve with pasta, tomato sauce and a side of roasted veggies!
